Humanitarian response

Like any responsible business, we play a key role supporting stakeholders during times of crisis. Leveraging our partnerships with manufacturers and distributors, as well as with NGOs and local governments, we ensure that our safe and affordable sanitation and hand hygiene solutions are available for the people in communities affected by humanitarian disasters.

Here are some recent examples where SATO solutions have improved the lives of those in need of urgent assistance:

KAKUMA REFUGEE CAMP AND KALOBEYEI SETTLEMENT, KENYA

Peace Winds Japan established seven sanitation shops – ‘named Duka-Safi’ – ran by 56 upskilled marketers, impacting the lives of 5,855 refugees.

A GROWING PORTFOLIO THAT ADDRESSES HUMANITARIAN NEEDS

Today, one in 33 people worldwide needs humanitarian assistance or protection. This creates new sanitation and hygiene challenges, and increases the spread of preventable illnesses, including diarrhoea – one of the most common causes of child mortality in refugee camps.

Leveraging SATO’s expertise in product development, innovation, we recently launched the SATO Slab – an easy-to-transport, sturdy and easy-to-clean platform that quickly creates a safe and pleasant toilet experience. It is designed to facilitate the rapid and affordable construction of strong, sturdy toilets, helping to combat pressures exerted by excessive use of a small number of toilet facilities.
